Based around a comment on this

As recomended by the London Quant, this TeaFiles product could be used to house all your market data including FREE Yahoo Finance as a source

Thanks to him for sending

As a I dig more into the psyche and tools/brokers available I am starting to these are set up to make a retail trader fail. Here is yet another example of highlights from this comment:

By the capability of the WaveWi$e program and Peter’s support I was so spoiled that I have been very dissatisfied with any “proprietary” data formats ever since.

Tea Files are IMO a “better CSV” because the files can be mapped from the legacy “CSV format” to the newer format under control of the user for many different eras/epochs of software standards and capability. The TeaHouse app shows that the developers understand very well what I wanted!

Too bad the retail trader oriented “developer platforms” STILL make basic sequential series data file reading, writing, browsing, translating, and editing tasks so hard. It often seems like these proprietary vendors do not want their customers to succeed in finding out how difficult their task really is!

This is the closest you will get to high speed data analysis which is customized for financial time series. Take this one seriously as the recommendation says so

The other benefit is you don’t need to recreate the wheel with this requirement

Are key databases like FlockDB from Twitter Goldman Sachs SecDB or TEAFiles key to your high speed trading system aka HFT ?

Check out these projects which massively helped out these operations:

Twiiter:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlockDB https://github.com/twitter/flockdb

This is respected database that couild be used fpr trading but don’t count on it

This could be a secret weapon for Goldman Sachs:

Is success of Goldman Sachs in HFT and quant development with Slang/SecDB no different than Erlang/Oracle Berkeley DB?

I little birdie told me they moved to Ruby on Rails but I would asume that is the front but still with SecDB on the back end.

Where do you think high speed kdb came from? Uh. Morgan Stanley: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K_%28programming_language%29

In essenvce Redis will not cut it where a homegrown version is need with graph and NOSQL with a query language is needed. Being C and cross platform helps.

IS TeaFiles and DiscreteLogics a decent cheaper alternative to SQL Server 2014 with market data internal memory for time series analysis?

IS TeaFiles and DiscreteLogics a decent alternative to SQL Server 2014 with market data internal memory for time series analysis? It is obviously more affordable for most people as well.

This was spawned by a comment at

https://quantlabs.net/blog/2014/02/automated-trading-system-debate-of-internal-memory-database-vs-relational-database-like-sql-server/

This works with all the popular programming languages like C#, C++, Python, R, and Matlab. Exciting as it is quite affordable as well.  It is obviously more affordable for most people as well.
