Live intake: GUI with local Python Django on VS Code or Pycharm vs C++ Qt or WxWidgets

A couple of details for you technical geeks out there who want to build an automated trading system. My Python scripts are getting crazy to manage so Ithere are better ways to manage them through a graphical user interface. I have 2 paths to choose which will my future live intake :

GUI with local Python Django on Visual Studio Code or Pycharm vs C++ Qt or WxWidgets

https://quantlabs.net/blog/2018/12/gui-python-django-vs-c-qt-wxwidgets/

The other track is with Qt 5 Designer with Python which I got working:

Qt5 Designer builder does exist for GUI file to convert into Python

https://quantlabs.net/blog/2018/12/qt5-designer-builder-does-exist-for-gui-file-to-convert-into-python/

Which path would you be interested in doing?

There are ways to enhance my GUI with Python. I will be applying this to my current course:

Python 3 Infrastructure Blocks with Crypto

A live intake  will be starting in early Jan 2019. This may be my only one I will ever do.

Let me know if you got questions on that.

Click here if you are interested in this LIVE intake course and details

https://quantlabs.net/academy/python-algo-trading-infrastructure-with-crypto-currency/

This will be extremely limited to a few people to keep the quality of delivering content high.

Thanks Bryan

GUI with local Python Django on Visual Studio Code or Pycharm vs C++ Qt or WxWidgets

This was a mess to get a real time chart using Chart Director. To get a graphical user interface, I must this was turning into a real hassle with C++. Qt version 5 is still too restrictive on the run time licensing end. Also, I find their IDE Qt Creator is just a beast where I really don’t want to use it. I even tried local Python with some moderate success.

I then tried using the open source edition of the CodeLite IDE with wxWidgets, I have had moderate success with this combo. It seem to get running on a Mac is not worth pursuing as it is way too old.

I then thought of trying the latest PyCharm Pro edition with ChartDirector and Django. Oh man, this is thing is a beast , They assume my package manager with my Python interpreter version 3 was using pip. I am actually using pip3 but to change that was not possible. You would think this was easy by justing adding the local Python interpreter. Pycharm did not recognize my local Python 3.6 but only found 3.1. When i navigated to the Python 3.6 to choose within the creator of the project, it would finally rconginze all the local Python packages. It took forever to load. Complete crap and not easy to play. Plus they want me to pay for this thing as it for the Pro edition.  Forget it!

I then had some moderate success with Visual Studio Code. It is these URL that make it much more possible:

https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/python/tutorial-django

OMG! Half the tutorial actually worked. I can also say I have much better understanding and appreciation for this IDE. I see why people like it since I got it to work.

Then we can talk about Django. No no no. Working with this framework made we want to stop. This thing is really old. There must be an easier way to build a real time charting with Chart Director. There has to be.

Difference between debugging Python in FREE Microsoft Visual Code Studio versus Pycharm

Difference between debugging Python in FREE Microsoft Visual Code Studio versus Pycharm

Visual Studio Code advantages

Both IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) are free but PyCharm has bugs with no simple help. Just go with the Microsoft Visual Code Studio just for the Intellisense or debugging capabilities. I still prefer my Sublime and running the Python interpreter for quicker development.

Both IDEs will run on all operating systems including Linux, Windows, and Mac OS

Wisest tips for Python 2 vs 3 with Anaconda vs PyCharm

Wisest tips for Python 2 vs 3 with Anaconda vs PyCharm

This came in from a wise software developer with much experience in these environments. Confusing for many I know based on an email I sent out below. Also, check out the 1 on 1 tutorial below to see how I tried to help others. BIG THANKS to this person for helping who is among some really amazing generous people in this community!

I sense your frustration with the mixed python environments when trying to get everything to play nicely (from your video) . May I suggest that you try setting up virtual python environments with “vritualenv”  (and/or manage multiple environments with “virtualenvwrapper”). Create your virtual environment and install Anaconda for python 2.7  into one of the virtual environments that you have setup and that way you have a isolated sandbox with which you can only use that version of python (the other installs are invisible to this environment unless you choose to make them visible – that is a switch in the virtualenv setup), IDE (Spyder) etc Anaconda only, and pip Mongodb will install in this Anaconda environment- without leaking into your other environments. You can setup another for Anaconda for python 3, another for Pycharm etc….

By the way “pip” does work with Anaconda for packages that are not part of Anaconda, you just have to manage those packages yourself and I have never had any issues.

Here are some resources that may be useful to explore should you wish to go down that path.

Tutorial on Python on Ubuntu Linux with PyCharm NOSQL MongoDB

Last Wednesday, I held my first 1 i LIVE TUTORIAL for one of my Quant Elite members. As non-technical trader, it is a common/classic scenario on where they are challenged in how to set up their automated trading environment. This is the hope that they can get caught up in all the lessons I’ve been teaching live.

Check out this helpful video for those that are in the same scenario

As you can imagine, this is one of the many common situations that I see. It is also a common practice of mine to get everybody up to speed that are struggling and setting up their environment which is probably the hardest step of all for automated trading. I try to give an extra personal Touch for them to accomplish this. Do realize this takes a bit of my time but I will happily do it. Unfortunately, there is a deadline for everything. I’m not sure if I’ll be helping out everybody as I have in the past as I’m going into a new direction with data analytics and trading analysis. This will start to take effect as of July sometime.

As I’ve been hinting in the last few emails, it is quite apparent that the trading technology space is getting overcrowded. Not only that, with the expectation of free it gets kind of hard to compete against that. As said, this is why I’m giving myself to July to help out people on the technical front. After that, I am unsure of my ability to commit my time for such goals. As a result, it is just another reason why you should join my Quant Elite membership to take advantage of this as well as learn about building out your trading business with automated trading.

I will be hosting our very first step in about learning an automated trading strategy starting this May 10 on Tuesday at 8 PM Eastern standard time.

Why WordPress over PyCharm with Python web Flask Django or Qt

Why WordPress over PyCharm with Python web Django Flask or Qt

I made a half an hour video explaining why I am now choosing WordPress over any of the Python web frameworks. To be honest, this has been a complete waste of my time. When you look at the complexities of learning new web frameworks like Django or Flask, you quickly realize you may want to shoot yourself in the head. Also, I have constantly given QT so many opportunities but with the combined different versions of 4 and 5 plus the complexities of Python version two or three, it might be better to do this whole thing in Assembler. As a result, for my own sanity I think WordPress will meet all my requirements.

As said, we start next Phase of Trading Strategy Development. This entails Pair Trading/Aribtrage for any equity that Yahoo Finance tracks!

P.S. More posting have been added including very helpful tutorials to set up Ubuntu with Python. Guess what? if you were part of Daily Digest, you would have already known about this useful 1 hour tutorial. Remember that is just on of many posting you missed in the last 24 hours.

Why WordPress over PyCharm with Python web Django Flask or Qt

I made a half an hour video explaining why I am now choosing WordPress over any of the Python web frameworks. To be honest, this has been a complete waste of my time. When you look at the complexities of learning new web frameworks like the Dkango or Flask, you quickly realize you may want to shoot yourself in the head. Also, I have constantly given QT so many opportunities but with the combined different versions of 4 and 5 plus the complexities of Python version two or three, it might be better to do this whole thing in Assembler. As a result, for my own sanity I think WordPress will meet all my requirements. This includes:

A popular easy to use web framework

Open source meaning free

Quick deployment onto any major operating system of my choice

Ready to post on remote servers like web hosting companies

Plug-and-play capabilities instead of hand coding

If you are adamant on using something like QT with Python, I would strongly recommend you to learn a book as in the 600 page one listed here.

Rapid WYSWYG book on Qt Designer with Python

Now I can rest my weary head to go back to my life. I hope I’m not disappointing anybody in this final decision but as you know, software development and architecture can be a real bitch. Ask any of the nearly insane people that work in the info technology company with their haywire environments that keep them from jumping off their window ledges.
