A recent comment

I think there are several reasons why F# has grown so quickly in popularity. The functional paradigm is particularly well-suited for parallel programming and data science, both of which have seen tremendous growth lately.

F# is both open source and backed by a heavyweight software company. This may be attractive to corporate technologists. I have to wonder if geography has a hand as well. With F# originating from the UK, and with London being probably the most significant center of finance in the world, it is not surprising that the banking/finance sector has been an early adopter.

Can you speed up or parallelize your DotNet code in C# with Matlab code through the Builder NE toolbox?

Can you speed up or parallelize your DotNet code in C# with Matlab code through the Builder NE toolbox?

Want to learn more about this? Join my FREE newsletter

This just came in through a Youtube message:

Hello Bryan,

I see you have some examples of how to use Matlab Builder NE.

I’d like to ask you if the algorithm computation costs are largely increased when using a solution like this?

I haven’t yet used I couldn’t get the software so far.

The algorithm I’m interested in using with .NET can be a bit complex since it is a clustering algorithm.

Yes, using the Builder NE can be inefficient but since Matlab 2012a, you can now parallelize with Matlab’s workers ( from the Distributed Computing ) in your C# code. That may be a way to speed it up but I cannot say as I have not confirmed this. I have seen documentation on this in the Builder NE toolbox user guide PDF. In other words, parfor now is supported in the Builder NE.

Live demo event: Parallelize your R analysis big data and use FREE open source NOSQL as a potential market database cluster

Live demo event: Parallelize your R analysis big data and use FREE open source NOSQL as a  potential market database cluster

People have asked for things including how to create a ticker factory, store market data, and how to quickly parallelize the data for analytical processing.  I will show a complete open source NOSQL database that can be used for panellizing processes and a data repository. This includes failover, clustering, and redundancy as well. This is based on a master and multi slave relationship which will be demoed. This is a very easily implemented solution to use as well as little moving parts to enable simple maintenance compared to other  popular big data NOSQL solutions. The client will be demoed within a R script.  This NOSQL solution is so impressive even Microsoft has an implementation of it in its new Open Tech community.

What does parallelize ARIMA mean? I google “parallelize ARIMA” but no hits

Question from a Linked In friend:

Hi Bryan,

It’s been a while since we have spoken. Hope you are doing well!

What does parallelize ARIMA mean? I google “parallelize ARIMA” and I get no hits. Please explain this.

Basicallty, watch my video to understand what ARIMA is and the potential of it:

Paralellizing means you can run these simulations in parallel on a number of markets assets within a cluster of systems. It is very powerful as it is done in R. This is what I am moving towards my new models. I hope this helps somewhat.  Learn more here as I get ready to demo this in my membership webinars.

Is the best way to parallelize ARIMA in R using the quantstrat and backtest R packages?

I wondered about this post.

http://quantlabs.net/r-blog/2012/08/is-the-smartest-way-to-parallelize-this-arima-function-within-r-only-for-windows-use-quantstart-and-backtest-r-packages/

I really don’t want to hack the R packages to parallelize from within those.

If you got a better suggestion, please let me know by commenting.
