New Python packages for GUI and Google Android deployment

New Python packages for GUI and Google Android deployment

As I am looking at my new options for Python package deployment for GUI, it seems Kivy is the answer which is now regularly updated in 2017

Note: I am not too worries about speed at this point since I am not interested in trading subsecond level. I think 5-10 second polling should be fine for now.

https://kivy.org/#home

Video demos as well

I would have originally gone with WXPython but that appears to be abandoned since it does not support Python 3

Note this paragraph:

  • Machine learning/artificial intelligence – Machine learning algorithms have become more prevalent in recent years in financial markets. Classifiers (such as Naive-Bayes, et al.) non-linear function matchers (neural networks) and optimisation routines (genetic algorithms) have all been used to predict asset paths or optimise trading strategies. If you have a background in this area you may have some insight into how particular algorithms might be applied to certain markets.

Testing of Python Markowitz Portfolio packages

Full testing of Python Markowitz Portfolio packages

In this video, I highlight some Trading Scripts you can use for analyzing a portfolio with Markowitz techniques. There are many other techniques but these seemed to work OK. In fact, one of the Demonstrations was to showcase zipline Python package  from Quantopian. It seems that I may have had compatibility issues since I’m using Python 2.7.13. As said previously, I’m trying to religiously stay with this particular version since I’ve had very few compatibility issues with other packages. That was up until this week where I need to upgrade to a more recent core version of Python. This  video is to demonstrate various compatibility issues you could have with packages and different versions of Python. Please keep that in mind when watching this video as you’ll see I fumble around a lot. This was recorded with newbies in mind really which is why I posted it.

Here is the length video

Ultimate motherload Python packages list for quant trading

Ultimate motherload Python packages list for quant trading

This is what I call the mother load of ultimate collection of Python packages and resource for quant and algo trading. They come from a person who has worked with Python for over 10+ years so a HUGE thanks to him for providing this.

Ok so first for timeseries storage, Arctic can be very interesting. It’s build on top of MongoDB and can perform very well. It should support Python 3 very soon https://github.com/manahl/arctic (it was only Python 2 until recently).

Market data are very compressible so it uses lz4 compression

This week Packt Publishing gives free books about machine learning. That should be something interesting for market data analysis

https://www.packtpub.com/packt/offers/free-learnin

I won’t say secretive because Matplotlib is nice for charting. See Sentdex video https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQVvvaa0QuDc2QjQOkZ4rtLYZVll_sZF

Ok maybe it could be worth to add some of https://pypi.python.org/pypi/yahoo-finance code to Pandas DataReader so it will have cache to DB

$ python –version Python 3.4.3 :: Anaconda 2.3.0 (x86_64)

Use Anaconda as it comes with all scientific stack (Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn…)

Yes pandas, matplotlib, and numpy are compatible with Python 3.4

Scikit-Learn is also Python 3 compatible
