Today in one of my videos, I decided to post about a potential algorithmic trading system built around Forex. I posted this video to answer it instead of you reading my horrible typing and grammatical errors. Sorry in advance. Honestly I’m trying to leverage the power of video so thanks to Youtube for that.
Anyhow let me explain this. Lots of people are looking for easy solutions for trading systems to make them have the best returns than other current methodologies. I get that. But are you not tired of the five or 10% annual take? Don’t you think you really need to start taking control of the outcome of your trading. Personally, you can easily do that through the magic of programming. Take a look at people like Mark Zuckerberg or Eric Schmidt who were all developers that are now some of the best well to do on the planet. I mean in terms of high frequency trading; I introduce you to Dr. Robert Mercer who is co-head of Renaissance Technologies. Yes! He is a smart guy, but he is also a software developer who is probably earning well over a cool $120 m per year. I’m sure… :-> Nice Life he has.
Onwards and upwards they say, so we shall take a different approach instead of providing you the fish. I want to teach you how to fish. That to me is more important so you could take control of the outcome of your life. But you also need to do a little work in learning how to program. This means, finally, I can say that a programming language like Python is the way to go. For The Love of God, they are teaching a five-year-old how to learn this programming language. Are you saying you were not able to do something that a five-year-old cannot do?
As a result, please oh please learn how to program. As a result, please oh please learn how to program Python. From there, you can build your own Forex trading system. I even explain this in this video below:
Now I know you could possibly be a big fan of what I do. Personally let me thank you for that. But I also need to congratulate you for taking this step in learning all this fun stuff. Why do you think I make so many videos? Holy I just made only five on Friday! That was only for YouTube alone. I don’t want to overwhelm you with my Instagram account which is even worse.
The major takeaways are I want you to to be able to build your own awesome pretty looking charts that you get in all those popular trading platforms. Could you imagine how you’ll be the cool kid with all your green and red charts at Christmas parties? Way to go Tiger!

This is recent Mathworks blows everything out into the wide open. I extended this automated trading webinar video where can also code generate C++ from the Simulink. Everything also appears to run no problem despite the parallelism.

The New York City Contact sent me a popular article on LinkedIn about building a generic automated trading system. As there are many options out there, you need to consider where the system is located, your ownership of the software, database connectivity options, Excel integration, speed, etc.

You may have seen the presentation from IQFeed which showcases the most affordable way to get Live or historical market data similar to very expensive Bloomberg terminal service. This alone will save you thousands of dollars. As we all know, billionaire James Simons of Renaissance Technology says data is key. How do you think Virtu Financial is able to watch over 25,000 market assets to trade 4 million transactions per day. This is why Zero Hedge calls Virtu the “Holy Grail of Trading”. Even Michael Lewis of “Flash Boys” book fame claims that no small retail trader like me cannot get this kind of access. I completely say that is hogwash as of now I have proven that is not the case.

Is SQL Server the right database for my internal automated trading system over open source Postgres SQL ?
As I am on my last stages of ths internal trading system, I need to start looking at a production environment. My Matlab 2014a wortked greate for the scripts but would only connect to PostGres for whatever reason. I will be downgrading the Matlab to an older PC for a dedicated box for this entire production system. This also moves that Matlab version will be able to connect to SQL Server. I will also be able to use my database schema from this course I offer which is included. Go here to learn more about it.

As a result, I will be porting the scripts to connect to SQL Server database with this mentioned schema. I will also be able to leverage the front end of the demo charting package found in my DevExpress demos in the above course.
After 4 years of looking at various database technology including NOSQL, SQL Server has always been my favourite database to house trading data.
I also wondered about the performance of something like SQL Server vs PostGres. As for 2014, this is what I found:

Concerns with PostGres resolved: Parallel queries, index only query
For this year in 2014: (Remember this does not even include the metrics of SQL Server 2014 with in memory feature OLTP!)
When running alone, SQL Server is much better than PostgreSQL, but as I said before it is not our goal and it can be for a lot of reasons, for example better implementation of DVD store or better drivers. But still, I’m impressed to see that difference. Test PostgreSQL in Linux is beyond the scope of our analysis, but I’m sure that it would improve a lot.
