Getting Started with the Interactive Brokers Native API

To get started, the first step is to establish a basic connection to Trader Workstation using the API. This will allow you to retrieve market data, place orders, and more.

 

Here’s how you can set up a basic connection to Trader Workstation:

  1. Download and install the Interactive Brokers TWS software on your computer.
  2. Log in to TWS using your account credentials.
  3. Enable the API settings in TWS by going to File > Global Configuration > API > Settings.
  4. Make note of the API port number displayed in the settings.

Now that you have established a connection to Trader Workstation, you can start exploring the capabilities of the Interactive Brokers Native API. Experiment with retrieving market data, placing test orders, and familiarizing yourself with the API documentation.
