Dear Alfresco: Why can you not use Wowza as a development model for us third party developers?
As I am working with both Alfresco the wonderful engineering piece of poo tool and Wowza, it makes me wonder why Alfresco engineers never thought of what Wowza is doing. Wowza includes an integrated development environment (IDE) based on Eclipse. This enables you modify any interaction or use the Wowza API using Java code or Flash client code. It seems to ve quite easy, great forum support from Wowza themselves, and excellent example files to get you started out of the box pretty quickly. Too bad Alfresco cannot think of this. Also, Alfresco’s product is much more complex so there is even a greater need for this type of developer support. Too bad they don`t listen to their third party developers. If not, take the Wowza development model as reference.
So I dumped Red 5 for Wowza Media Server. Another open source project again disappoints due to lack of questionable help or third party support
I found Red 5 to be flaky and unpredictable. Maybe it was just me or I did not know what I was doing. It seems the Red 5 support has very sporadic community support and documentation. I got basic communication between the Red 5 media server and Flash clients with little problems. When I tried to customize, things start breaking. I don’t have time for this as I want to get paid today for my work, not next century. Screw that!
So I tried this commercial media server called Wowza. It seems to work great with no issues what so ever. I even got the Flash client and Wowza media server communicating, recording, and replaying my videos with no problem. Thanks for that. The documentation and out of box examples worked flawlessly. Again, another open source project that failed miserably.
Now I can integrate this client code into my Google Web Toolkit application with the client code. Everything will hopefully work easily now so I can get paid faster.
