Working virtualization demo of IQFeed on Windows with Shared folder

Working virtualization demo of IQFeed on Windows with Shared folder

Have you had a Eureka moment? Sort of like when Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity? Well yesterday, I have two videos which could change everything for me. As you know, I am running on a Mac OS X environment. As it stands the only market data provider I like honestly is IQFeed. I’m still waiting to hear back from Quandl on a variety of questions I asked them. For the price they charge on a monthly basis, it is pretty dismal customer service during the presale phase. That has been over a month now! People at IQFeed answer within hours.

Anyhow, the only difficulty I find with IQFeed is that they run on Windows only. Yes I did try using their Wine project option for both Linux and OS X but failed miserably due too incompatible Window programs. I have devised a simpler way to do it using VirtualBox in a virtualized Windows environment

Demo of Download Euro Stat analyze Excel data in Python video playback

Also, I did a live weekly Meetup event last night debuting my Python script. You know, the one that downloads important Euro Stat economic data. It was a fairly detailed source code walk through that people seem to appreciate. I am also planning to use this as my role model for a good number of my scripts that I plan to develop. The unfortunate part is both that this video and the actual Python script source code are only available to my Quant Elite members.

People have been asking me about the monthly option so check it out here

But as some people religiously follow what I do, I would highly recommend to check out my annual special that really extends you for another 24 month of my access to my source code, live Meetup video playbacks, and courses.

Simple videos to get a CentOS Linux DHCP server talking to a Windows client with virtualization

Simple videos to get a CentOS Linux DHCP server talking to a Windows client with virtualization

OK. Forget that OpenBSD distribution Idea, let me work on my next fave Linux distro. This tutorial video is always the hardest part to get a Windows client talking to CentOS Linux server. It walks you through it so it ain’t to bad to get started to get both worlds talking to each other.

Not the best presenter but it gets the job done

Is the QNAP Turbo NAS a solid device for HFT with potential Linux, Windows Server, MYSQL Server, VMWare HyperV virtualization?

Is the QNAP Turbo NAS a solid device for HFT with potential Linux,  Windows Server,  MYSQL Server, VMWare HyperV virtualization?

Is the QNAP Turbo NAS a solid device for HFT with potential Linux,  Windows Server,  MYSQL Server, VMWare HyperV virtualization

First off, I have no affiliation with any of these companies mentioned.

So today I went walking into my Canada Computing supermart asking some tech question. I was taken over to this QNAP Turbo NAS box which I must say is very sweet. It is a self contained NAS unit that can handle over 15 TB of space with 4 external drives. It also includes your basic operating system like Windows Server or Linux which would includes MYSQL Server as a data store. Wow! It also includes your packages for FTP, printer server, and other environments including a Python or Java runtime environments. Did I mention these can all be shared among one system? It is also VMWare or Hyper V ready for virtualization. This is really good but the only two drawbacks are:

1. It is a ATOM processor which could be kind of slow

2. The price might be hefty for those but the ones I looked at ranging from $800-$1100 each. You are still saving on the software and hardware alone!

As for high frequency trading potential, I would recommend this for developing/testing only. If the regulators step in to delay all trades by a few seconds, this box could potentially be useful for even a production environment. Notice I say potential only.  This would definitely be a decent fit for my potential Trading-Shim which uses MYSQL as the backend for data store of market ticks.

This could get very interesting with this device.

Quant development: Virtualization Increase overall latency in trade life cycle ?

Virtualization Increase overall latency in trade life cycle ?

One study in US shows that If you implement Virtualization on Trading server It increase Latency up to as 44 microsecond (87 microsecond round-trip )

—-

Virtualization, in computing, is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as a hardware platform, operating system. When you create something out of something latency would come.

—-

Virtualization is not to be used in an environment where time factor is highly critical. Virtualization is required for optimal usage of IT resources.

—-

everyone in this group know the basics of virtualization But No one know INSIDE Story. My Discussion is all about Inside as i allready mention for each & every implementation under Virtualization cause 87 microsecond delay I am 100% sure most of them out their do not know this fact.So please Do Not Mind but give some inside views ONLY……….

I had given the real reason of delay. While you had given the data. For four and half years I have worked as software engineer in NetApp “The storage Company” , NetApp is a partner of Vmware for development of Virtualized storage. I know exactly why the delay is there and why Virtualization in current form should not be implemented in mission critical appilications. I was just trying to keep it simple. In present form Every study and testing of virtualization will generate the delay data. If anybody is interested in specific technical reason, then please let me know.

Just NO virtualization on time-critical infrastructure. Bare-bone hardware servers with plenty of extra RAM/CPU/Bandwidth to cope with any activity peak. Everything else just runs find on VMs.
