Comparing trading platforms like Ninja Trader and brokers on Google Trends

Comparing trading platforms and brokers on Google Trends
I compare all the popular trading platforms including Tradestation, Multicharts, MT4, Ninja Trader and even MotiveWave. It seems that MT4 is easily #1 but Tradestation is quite popular with Ninja Trader trading.
I am somehow  started glancing at brokers and even crypto currency/Bitcoin exchanges. It seems Crypto exchanges was very very popular a year ago but quickly died off. When you look at the brokers like Interactive Brokers, Oanda, Dukascopy, and other crypto exchanges. I broke down the analysis down by city and event country or region.

But why Oanda?

You can clearly see Oanda is the dominant force. globally.  This is another reason I found MT4 (Metatrader 4) is popular. MT5 is up there swell. When you look at the region what is driving Oanda, it seems be out of Hong Kong and Asia but it still dominates on Google Trend audience share. Also, when you look at the similar terms as Oanda. I found mysteries around PostFinance.ch (a digital bank out of Switzerland) and Sweden and Norway regions. It seems that some West African countries were in there as well. Maybe someone can explain this relationship I am seeing.

I am currently offering new and future Premium members full access to the Academy with access to all current courses. You are basically getting two things for the price of one. As it stands, once a certain date passes, people would need to go through separate purchases for the QuantLabs.net Academy access and another purchase to be a QuantLabs.net Premium Member. It is kind of like two separate business. Hope that clears that up.

Q&A about open source in house trading platform versus expensve institutional HFT trading platforms like Deltix or Quanthouse

A general Q&A about open source in house trading platform versus expensve institutional trading platforms like Deltix or Quanthouse

A question came up from a Linked in members;

Hi Bryan,
I really like to follow your ideas on linkedin and your blog, I have a quick question for you:

– For a global macro algo trading business (some directional and pair trading on fx,futures, stock, options only for phase 2) with signals using 1minute or more data with holding period between minutes and potentially days do you think that tradelink could handle it using c# and matlab (using the deployment tool)?
For what I understood it doesn’t fit UHFT, but I am a small private trader so I don’t care, and my models are only based on econometric models or simple pattern recognition using only financial data.

I agree on multichart and talking to deltix and quanthouse I think they are really the holy grail, but it’s to expensive for retails people. However given the less relevant issue for latency (high, but not ultra high) it looks to me that tradelink with IB could avoid the operational risk(and time) of of an in-house platform project.

Thanks in advance for your comments

Tradelink seems to be the best as is stands when you are starting out. It is full of bugs and other limitations, but it has a thricing community and some limited support for a cheap monthly. Deltix is the best it seems IB is the best broker at this point. It comes down to the ability of testing all this out as we are now entering in that phase. Also, Quanthouse product did not impress me that much.

Microsoft Excel for quant or high frequency trading ? Priority of open source trading platforms, programming languages to learn

Hi there

1. It seems there are a few people who are using less advanced tools like MS Excel and VBA to do their trading development or build a HFT environment. I did a brief article on a query from someone about it. Go here.
3. Here is another Top 10 whichs seems to resonate with people:
Just a side note, members make this happen where I can continue FREE pumping all this love and generosity of my sharing of software tools for quants, hedge fund start ups, etc.
This is why I am constistently pushing to get people to –> sign up to the QuantLabs.net Premium Member <– to carry this mission of development and profitable trading strategies on the tools built. Benefits of this are always listed here.
Got questions, so let me know

We are starting to re-evaluate all potential open source trading platforms for our R and Matlab strategies

We are starting to re-evaluate all potential open source trading platforms for our R and Matlab strategies

Damn! Trading Shim is out. Interactive Brokers does not appear to properly update TWS for Linux. As a result, we are forced to stay on Windows which is kind of a yucky option but we can only trade through Interactive Brokers here in Canada also known as the most commie trading country on the planet. The Shim also appears to be abandonded as well so I really have no interested in doing battle with myself going DIY!

We are looking and testing. Join the QuantLabs.net membership to understand what we do!

Why the choice of C++? How about Java?

You can see an open source ATS written in Java for the IB API at http://code.google.com/p/jsystemtrader/

With JSystemTrader it is rather straightforward to modify an existing strategy or write a new strategy, backtest it and run it in realtime.

If you want to work with the order book there is JBookTrader http://code.google.com/p/jbooktrader/

JBookTrader looks quite good but I question JSystemTraders as do others on Source Forge

Quant development: IDEs versus trading platforms like HFT or high frequency trading platforms

Quant development: IDEs versus trading platforms like HFT or high frequency trading platforms

A question fgrom a reader came up:

Hi
When you say ‘trading platforms’ in your blog, are you talking of
building development platform (IDE) or creating a trading system too?

Thanks
Murty

I am only referring to trading platforms which HFT really is. An integrated development environemt (IDE) is an environment for programmers like Eclipse or Microsoft Visual Studio.  Hope that helps.
