R you ready for SQL Server 2016?

R you ready for SQL Server 2016?

Cheezy headline I know but it seems this horse has long run past the barn. After my various technical issues and concerns of privacy, I think Microsoft can stick it from my end. I have no  interest in these technologies no longer but some may do

SQL Server 2016 with Azure Data Lake services

Interesting stuff from MS but I think I got better alternatives like open source peppy Redis can do both

NOSQL vs SQL Server OTLP debate

NOSQL vs SQL Server OTLP debate

A Youtube comment came in:

So were you comparing the speed of streamInsight to sql server in retrieving 1.2 million lines?  And are you saying the server is faster?  If so I am confused, aren’t they used for different things?  I thought streaminsight is really for real-time data stream processing and CEPs.  I am not trying to be a smart*** I am really trying to understand because I am in the same boat as you and this real-time processing thing is still new and it seams many people who claim to know much about it are also still confused.  What I am looking at currently is streamInsight vs. In-Memory OLTP features of sql server 2014.  Have you looked at that and do you have an insight to share.

StreamInsights is sort of dated now. OLTP seems to be Microsoft’s answer to NOSQL. As for me, I just use Redis with new clustering and failover which appeals to me. It is also in-memory and true open source which is free. It is good stuff!

In-database R IN SQL Server 2016

In-database R IN SQL Server 2016

This sounds nice but methinks to stick with my Postgres and Redis combo which is all true open source. and multi OS. Also, code generate to C or C++ via Matlab as well

SQL Server 2016 beta out with R analytics

When you figure with the decision to stick with Windows despite all the bashing, it seems Microsoft still rules with SQL Server and Visual Studio. Check out some of the features:

…new technology that lets you dynamically stretch your warm and cold transactional data to Microsoft Azure, enhancements to our industry-leading in-memory technologies for real-time analytics on top of breakthrough transactional performance and new in-database analytics with R integration.

NO SQL Server, stay with PostGresSQL database

NO SQL Server, stay with PostGresSQL database
I also decided not move ahead with SQL Server as well due to uncessary complexities to set up a connection from Matlab. As a result, the notes and caveats are below but I am sticking with PostGreSQL for now as it is very easy to work with and multi platform. It is open source as well which means it is FREE.

Try opening the SQL server configuration manager with RUN AS ADMIN option and see if that makes any differencofe
Add in the C:\Users\Bryan\AppData\Roaming\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2014a\javalibrarypath.txt contains something like:
C:\Users\Bryan\AppData\Roaming\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2014a\sqljdbc_4.1\enu\auth\x64
The javaclasspath.txt has
C:\Users\Bryan\Downloads\Microsoft JDBC Driver 4.1 for SQL Server\sqljdbc_4.1\enu\sqljdbc.jar
I had to correct:
C:\Users\Bryan\Downloads\Microsoft JDBC Driver 4.1 for SQL Server\sqljdbc_4.1\enu\sqljdbc4.jar

If you the JDBC 4.1, you will get error of
3:01:30 PM com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection <init>

SEVERE: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.7 is not supported by this driver. Use the sqljdbc4.jar class library, which provides support for JDBC 4.0.

Use the JDBC4.0 not 4.1!
I created Data Source to SQL Server with sample sa credentials for SQL Server authentication
