Bryan here from Quantlabs.net.
When I first got interested in quant trading, there were several topics that really fascinated me. One of the most obscure was the specific architecture of a quant trading computer system.
Exactly how powerful a set-up do you need to run a complete HFT (high frequency trading) automated algorithm, anyway?
It’s been a long journey as I built out my intranet and infrastructure step by step: trial and error all the way. I did a lot of hair-pulling. A lot of pounding on computer desks. And I don’t think my mother would have appreciated some of my language when things didn’t go according to plan!
But today I can reveal the surprising answer — including a complete hardware and software inventory:
* 1 Intel i7 Windows 7 server for .NET trading platform and data feed connectors and all the trimmings
* 1 Dual Core Ubuntu Master for Redis back end and other Java processes and R processes
* 2 older PCs used as R doRedis workers for cluster slaves with R and Java systems
* 2 old Mac Minis and 1 G4 Mac used as R cluster slave workers and potential limited Java apps Java processes including Stock Exchange simulator and Stock and other Market asset screeners
And that’s it!
Less than you expected, I bet. But the important take away from this inventory list is what I’m about to do with it. Live algo testing. Simulated (and then live) trading. Making money, and lots of it.
I’d love to show you those intimate, proprietary details. But only Premium members will get access to this info.
