Facebook PyTorch 1 release Python machine learning with native code

Facebook will be pushing out a new version of PyTorch It seems to be the second most popular machine learning framework out there. It include Python machine learning native code.

Torch Script works one of two ways. New code can be written using the Torch Script language, which by design can compile readily to native code. It’s also possible to take existing Python code, decorate it with the @torch.jit.trace decorator, and have it just-in-time compiled to native code. However, this is not as effective as using Torch Script….

Another commonly used package, Cython, allows Python to be turned incrementally into C by way of custom syntax declarations. Cython can work with the whole range of Python and C types alike, as well as all of Python’s syntax, but Torch Script is restricted to operations on PyTorch tensors, integers, and floating-point numbers. And Torch Script can’t use constructions like exceptions.

Maybe I should I just stick with Tensor Flow 2 coming out in Dec or Jan? It seems to be gaining more popularity vs PyTorch. It should be just as easy to work with for us newbies.

I question the future

I would also like to predict this PyTorch scripting language may be tough to see in the long term. That is is of course with ‘let’s abandon everything’ Microsoft hat on.

Microsoft release quantum computing simulator

Microsoft release quantum computing simulator
This could be the biggest thing that they have done in years!

The field of quantum computing is really fascinating, and Microsoft has been focusing on this field for three years now. Recently, the company released its quantum simulator on GitHub. The software giant is calling it the Language-Integrated Quantum Operations (LIQUi|>) simulator, and as you may expect, this isn’t made for your average Joe.

When will the MSI Installer be ready?

We’ve made some enhancements to our Licensing Server to accept manual (offline) activations via email, and process a response semi-automatically. Also to auto-detect proxy for HTTP requests. These need to be thoroughly tested as you can imagine.

We’re aiming to get it done, and packaged and released by the end of the week. We will email via our newsletter once it’s ready.

We’ve prepared a NuGet package for you with v3.2 Enhancements

You can grab a nightly build off our NuGet server right now: 3.2.0.5424.

If you have not activated v3.2 yet, this will require Activation with the SciChart Licensing Wizard, available in the v3.2 BETA MSI Installer. If you have, it should just work.

What’s Changed in Build 5424?

v3.2.0.5424 Enhancements

  • NEW! Added Logarithmic Base feature to LogarithmicNumericAxis
  • NEW! Added SelectedRangechanged scroll event for SciChartScrollBar, raised after interactions with scrollbar thumbs (dragging, resizing, programmatic changes)
  • NEW! Added support for RubberBandXyZoomModifier for polar chart. Removed obsolete property FitYAxisOnZoom
  • NEW! Ohlc, Hlc, BoxPlotSeries tooltips to use Axis Formatted Values
  • NEW! Added AnnotationBase.DragDelta event – for an event when a user drag occurs
  • NEW! Added HorizontalLineAnnotation.YDragStep – now supports drag with snap to step
  • NEW! LegendModifier.UpdateLegend, GetSeriesInfo now virtual methods, accessible by derived types

v3.2.0.5424 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Polar chart annotations issue after MouseWheelZoom
  • Fixed issue with tooltip template for Heatmap Series
  • Fixed polar chart ticks get detached (SL only)
  • Fixed broken rollover in Silverlight
  • Fixed crash in ToggleButtonExtensions in the VS Designer in some cases (affected examples)
  • Fixed AnnotationLabels now obey cursor text formatting
  • Fixed bug in NotifyAxesDataRangeChanged where it crashed if SciChartSurface.RenderableSeries collection was null
  • Fixed exception in Logarithmic Axis example in the examples suite
  • Fixed several modifiers throwing NullReferenceException if AxisCollection is null or empty
  • Fixed a bug in Dashed Lines for High Quality Render Surface, where dashes resulted in large gaps in some cases
  • Fixed a crash in StackedMountainsWrapper when using HitTest with DateTimeAxis
  • Fixed default CursorTextFormatting in NumericAxis
  • Several improvements and minor enhancements to Polar Chart series
  • Updated SciChart D3D NuGet package to reference and include D3DX9_43.dll, required if the end-user computer does not have the DirectX Runtime

Examples / Installation Improvements (Coming Soon)

You can’t get these now, as they will be part of the full installer, but when it hits, it will include

  • Improved Activation / Licensing Wizard. Now auto-detects proxy to send HTTP requests behind a proxy. Manual Activation now emails our licensing server for a quick (2 minute) automated response!
  • Improved deployment of DirectX. Included D3DX9_43.dll in the [Install Dir]/Lib/net40/ folder so DirectX works on computers without DirectX Runtime.
  • NEW: Added CustomRenderableSeries example – spline render series – to Examples suite
  • Improvements to several examples in the Examples suite

Where can I get it?

You can download the binaries for v3.2.5424 off our NuGet server, either by referencing via NuGet Package manager, or by just downloading the *.nupkg, renaming to *.zip and extracting it.

If your support is in subscription and you have activated already, you should be able to use it straight away.

Open source NOSQL MongoDB 2.6: Our Biggest Release Ever

I struggle if this was worth putting up but do remember we use SQL Server 2012 now as our choice of database

MongoDB 2.6: Our Biggest Release Ever

In the five years since the initial release of MongoDB, and after hundreds of thousands of deployments, we have learned a lot. The time has come to take everything we have learned and create a basis for continued innovation over the next ten years.

Today I’m pleased to announce that, with the release of MongoDB 2.6, we have achieved that goal. With comprehensive core server enhancements, a groundbreaking new automation tool, and critical enterprise features, MongoDB 2.6 is by far our biggest release ever.

You’ll see the benefits in better performance and new innovations. We re-wrote the entire query execution engine to improve scalability, and took our first step in building a sophisticated query planner by introducing index intersection. We’ve made the codebase easier to maintain, and made it easier to implement new features. Finally, MongoDB 2.6 lays the foundation for massive improvements to concurrency in MongoDB 2.8, including document-level locking.

From the very beginning, MongoDB has offered developers a simple and elegant way to manage their data. Now we’re bringing that same simplicity and elegance to managing MongoDB. MongoDB Management Service (MMS), which already provides 35,000 MongoDB customers with monitoring and alerting, now provides backup and point-in-time restore functionality, in the cloud and on-premises.

We are also announcing a game-changing feature coming later this year: automation, also with hosted and on-premises options. Automation will allow you to provision and manage MongoDB replica sets and sharded clusters via a simple yet sophisticated interface.

MongoDB 2.6 brings security, integration and analytics enhancements to ease deployment in enterprise environments. LDAP, x.509 and Kerberos authentication are critical enhancements for organizations that require a single authentication mechanism across their entire infrastructure. To enhance security, MongoDB 2.6 implements TLS encryption, user-defined roles, auditing and field-level redaction, a critical building block for trusted systems. IBM Guardium also now offers integration with MongoDB, providing more extensive auditing abilities.

These are only a few of the key improvements; read the full official release notes (http://docs.mongodb.org/master/release-notes/2.6/) for more details.

MongoDB 2.6 was a major endeavor and bringing it to fruition required hard work and coordination across a rapidly growing team. Over the past few years we have built and invested in that team, and I can proudly say we have the experience, drive and determination to deliver on this and future releases. There is much still to be done, and with MongoDB 2.6, we have a foundation for the next decade of database innovation.

Eliot Horowitz, CTO and Co-Founder
