Morningstar IP Feed using Java for Quant development?

A question was sent about Morningstar's data feed with Java
 Bryan,

I saw that you had a post about connecting to morningstar using java.  Do you mean the morning star IP feed.  If so were you successful.  We are currently trying to implement it and I am having trouble getting past the authentication stage.  Can you be of any assistance.

many thanks

My response is I have not tried this as the feed itself is too expensive. I have successfully connected with Yahoo Finance using C# and soon Yahoo Premuim service with Matlab.  I am not sure of your goals but Bloomberg seems to have the best market finance data with a Matlab and KDB connector out of the box.

As for Morningstar service, it looks great as I use that for my Blackberry. I really like the opinions from various experts you don't get on Bloomberg.

Anyhow, I am off track but I am just sharing my experiences for others. I wish I could help more on the Morningstar feed but I did find the Yahoo Finance can be adequate for certain research or testing.

Let me know if I  can further help

“qualitative research”: My market feed data reader is working with Morningstar, Yahoo Finance, and Google Finance,

This will be my first product to be released in a couple of weeks (maybe months) but the primitive version of this market feed data reader seems to be working ok. It will connect to Yahoo Finance, Google Finance, and Morningstar. It also seems to bomb out on Yahoo Finance if there are too many requests from my IP but is ok with Morningstar. Weird but that may explain why Yahooo Finance has a paid solution for this. Anyhow, this same market reader software product works with SQL Server and MYSQL. I am also interested to see what other back end database products potential customers would be interested in.

There are a number of readers which will become available but they will be released as Java Archive files (JAR). Let me know what you think.

NOTE: This will be great for back testing!!
