How to use MongoDB with GUI
I am tired of MYSQL lacking utilities thanks to Oracle. Postgres does not look stable in Mac OSX. That leaves me with SQLite or MongoDB. SQLite does not allow clustering while MongoDB does while it is fairly easy to setup. I plan to use MongoDB as a traditional relational database with Redis for in memory. Let’s see what happens with this combo.
Also according to DBEngines, it is getting very popular even overtaking Postgres.
Best GUI client: https://coderwall.com/p/fb5dgg/the-best-mongodb-gui-for-mac-os-x
Go through Mongo Shell tuturial at https://docs.mongodb.org/getting-started/shell/query/#prerequisites
NOTE: I found RoboMongo kept crashing so I used MongoHub which seems stable. Retrieve under the headline of Download https://github.com/jeromelebel/MongoHub-Mac
On Mongo shell, create database: (http://www.tutorialspoint.com/mongodb/mongodb_create_database.htm)
Create collection via https://docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/method/db.createCollection/
I decided to use Python to do all the database creation with collection and population of data.
For each new MongoDB table, export Excel to a CSV and import using the solution at
mongoimport --db myDb --collection myCollection --type csv --headerline --file /path/to/myfile.csv
