This is one of the best resources online I have ever seen for quant studying with C++: A student of the CQF!

I have been somewhat ignorant on the important of the CQF. It seems is widely recognized but one of their students has posted this on Facebook. It has quite a lot of breadth to it! Check it out at:

Learn more how may use this in my use of my trading environment!

P.S. I would have posted their logo of the CQF but their lawyers at Fitch prevent me from doing it.

Is this CQF or QuantNet C++ Programming Certification for a quant career add much to your career?

A question came in from someone on Facebook:

Bryan,

I am also wondering if you have seen this and have any thoughts on it as well. I notice that the masters degree at University of Essex is like $21,000……..whereas this is around $1,450 structured course.

https://www.quantnet.com/pages/programming-cert/

My answer:

If you are wanting to learn C++ in an expensive way, I don’t think this will add much to your career. With the glut of PHDs recent graduate quant wannabees, I would think it would be stiff competition to go up against someone with a PHD from an Ivy league school like Stanford or Columbia. I would just stick with some college course. I have the same feeling with this CQF as well.Don’t forget you are also going up against the killer experienced C++ developers who wrote some FIX or matching engine at a company like RBS, Getco, or Citadel. There are a tonne of those experienced people out there as well.

I can easily base this off the people who are launching hedge funds hiring new developers in the UK.

Someone is Documenting their CQF journey

Someone is Documenting their CQF journey

Hi Bryan, I learned from you that documenting a journey can be fun. I started to document some of my CQF experiences and other interesting finance stuff I came across during the course. Exam #2 has been brutal but I’m hanging in there. Got 100% on the Math Aptitude Exam and 98% on the module #1 exam. The module #2 exam is much tougher. Hope you are doing well.

Best regards,

The CQF Team

Delegate Profile – Richard Bayley

Previous Qualifications:
PhD Pure Maths, University of London, Queen Mary and Westfield College. Master of Mathematics, Leicester University.

Current Position:
Technical Analyst, Collins Stewart

”What drew me to the CQF was the idea of applying maths directly to finance, the course is very practical. Also what’s attractive about the program, is the way the lectures are structured, they give you a good introduction into how finance and mathematics can be used together to hopefully help you develop your career.”

Once you have done the course, that is not the end – you are always a member of the CQF”

Delegate Profile – Eleanna Skouta

Previous Qualifications:
BSc Honours Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, City University, London

Current Position:
Confidential

”The CQF program was a very efficient way to expand my knowledge on Quantitative Finance, while working in parallel. It has enabled me to transition from a Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence background into a Quantitative Financial Engineer. In a matter of six months they covered a broad range of topics in derivatives, with in-depth theory but driven by practice. We implemented the models we learnt in theory using Excel. We also tested our knowledge on option pricing and hedging using a trading simulator where we traded against colleagues and other AI traders.”
