I am looking for ideas about how to measure an organization’s maturity in the use of data quant analytics. Does anyone have experience with this type of problem – what methods have you used?
TDWI has several measures of this type available. I believe they have one for BI.
The book Competing on Analytics, by Thomas Davenport and Jeanne Harris, outlines a five-stage maturity model, and their follow-up book Analytics at Work details five elements of analytical competitors (the DELTA model, for Data, Enterprise, Leadership, Targets and Analysts). These are books, though, so not a quick check-list or application. But they’re good books.
If you are looking to measure the organization maturity on use rather than the analytics maturity itself, I’d suggest Kaplan and Norton’s The Balanced Scorecard of Five Minute Manager.
To measure the maturity of your analytic tools-set, there are a few industry-dependent maturity/adoption arcs available and I would look for one of those.
