Running Wine for IQFeed client can be unstable but I do have a better option with VMWare below as well.
Note: These are just tips to help you install IQfeed on Linux or get iw working. You would need strong Linux admin skills to accomplish this. I don’t have time to help anyone on this. If it is a big issue, you might want to run your IQFeed and MotiveWave on Windows to save yourself wasted effort if this does work out)
I tried running a Virtualization software like VMWave for my Linux but this was a total waste of time. I would suggest using dxFeed as instructed here https://quantlabs.net/blog/2022/07/live-post-as-i-research-this-dxfeed-for-motivewave/
Go towards the bottom of the page to know how to order for MotiveWave trading app. This will run on Linux with no client app needed. It just signs into dxFeed servers through MotiveWave even on Linux!

If wine install on Linux (e.g. Mint) with:
sudo apt-get install wine
(for me this install the latest Wine 4)
Your wine install may not install ~/.wine propery so use this app launcher under:
/usr/share/applications with Wine Windows Program Loader with Linux target /opt/wine-stable/share/applications/wine.desktop
Need to double to install required libraries. It should walk through process
This link may help but you can launch this app by double clicking
sudo ln -s /usr/share/doc/wine/examples/wine.desktop /usr/share/applications/
You can also find out how to run wine to install your client program like IQFeed
Try launching Wine standard Internet Expoloer from:
~/.wine/drive_c/Program_Files/Interbet Exploer..(whatever version)
wine <PROGRAM NAME>
:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Internet Explorer
In your Linux browser, point and download the IQFeed client software from
It should download the appropriate version to your Download direction like
Move that file to your local Wine software program folder and run. For example if your local direction is ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Internet Explorer$ mv ~/Downloads/iqfeed_client_6_2_0_25.exe .
I made a Download director like: mkdir Download
I now have this:
You should be able to run your IqFeed client install with:
All required dependencies should be install which will now create a directory path of
You should be able to run this:
I find MotiveWave does not connect with within linux since both clients are not stable to remain open. I also find there are connect problems with either IQFeed client since the Connect but can get disabled.
FOR VMWARE attempt:
Because of this Wine problem, I would suggest a virtualization software. I don’t recommend Virtual Box since the deployed virtual machine OS files can get corrupted very easily. You would need something a little more rigid like VMWare worksation.
Try downloading this from
Can I use VMware for free?
The free version is available for non-commercial, personal and home use. We also encourage students and non-profit organizations to benefit from this offering. Commercial organizations require commercial licenses to use Workstation Player.
Once downloaded, ensure the file has execution permission with in your ~/Downloads directory:
chmod +x VMware-Player-Full-16.2.3-19376536.x86_64.bundle
make sure to match up with the correct version number!
Now you should be able to run with root access
You could use Windows 10 ISO to create the virtual machine https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10ISO
