FreeBSD with C++ and Java stripped down for lowest latency potential HFT

I think I would deploy on this environment with some basic compile library tools as hinted at this RenTech job posting among others postings

Rentech HFT tech job descriptions reveal quite a bit

More info

Rentech HFT says UNIX so lets look at open source FreeBSD

I will say this install was much easier than thought using FREE VirtualBox on a Virtual Machine

Note I chose the AMD 64 ISO for my Macbook with Intel I5

Install gcc for C++

http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/130639/how-do-i-install-the-latest-gcc-on-freebsd

pkg install lang/gcc

pkg install python27 python

openjdk includes the JRE and compiler

pkg install openjdk8

and openjdk8-jre

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-java-on-freebsd-10-1

for version: “uname -a”

To secure and lock down the OS but this will be done at a much later time closer to production when ready to go
