The real reason is their Medallion Fund as described here:
Medallion, which is the fund that has the “stratospheric” returns that Roger mentions is only open to employees. It’s probably the number one reason to join the firm, and it’s always the headline number in perf. That’s what you get equity in if you do well. If you look at their other strategies, the numbers are not particularly impressive
