until the exchanges/provider change to a different protocol I dont think others can justify changing. The reason for this is that in a colocated datacentre is that trading decisions are based upon the incoming market data of that colocation + from other colocations. It is not necessarily the case that speeding up internally from box 1 to box 2 will make any monetary difference unless there is some need to get data from box 1 to box 2 but if there was and it was important enough why not run on the same box and save the network hop ?. What would make a clear monetary benefit is to get data from DC1 to DC2 quicker or from the exchange which would require a huge increase in spending and costs and the infrastruture change could would be huge. Though as you know if it makes more money that it costs someone will do it and the more that do it the cheaper it becomes.

Yes this what this question is about it is sort of marketing research to see whether clients don’t mind if providers would change this way.

my opinion is that people would if the cost/benefit was there as profit drives everything. Do it quicker/cheaper than anyone else and maybe people will switch.

That is according to current status quo, more than possible, but we have been offering more technologies which was in every measurable parameter was (are) better than those used and it almost everytime failed (altought much more “mediocre” things was successful). So I need to know if there is will to do that. I agree with your assumptions, still need to know from more people though.

I think this question raises the interoperability problem. Even if the providers can change their protocol stacks, would the new system be interoperable with the Internet? how does this work for clients? it is a complete silly direction probably-:)
