It seems there are many start ups now trying to solve the “Big Data” Problem. My own research finds 23 companies Hadoop based products or equivalents. Did any one compare them?
Here are those 23 companies that I came up with 10gen, info bright, karmasphere, platfora, EMC Greenplum, oracle, Unlockdata, continuum, Asterdata, Cloudera, CouchBase, Datameer, DataStax, Hadapt, Hortonworks, HPCC, Hstreaming, MapR, Outerthought, Quantcast, Windows Azure, Zettaset, Rainstore.
Yes, there have been posts, however just because a company has a product the interacts w Hadoop doesn’t mean that their product set overlaps.
Karmasphere’s product doesn’t overlap w EMC or MapR or Cloudera… Where EMC resells MapR yet also has their own Apache release and both compete w Cloudera and HortonWorks…
Then you have other companies trying to make their products relevant like Syncsort.
What do you want to know?
I would like identify real products from this clutter with a stack solving “Big data” problem.
I’m missing IBM Infosphere Biginisights in the list. No?
believe me there are more. Especially in Boston. Out of your lsit there are 7 that are real players.
The ‘Big Data’ space is rapidly evolving, with many concepts being tried and new ideas put forward. You can read about not just 23, but more than 150+ such systems, at: http://nosql-database.org/ . Hadoop is by no means theonly story in town.
totally agree with you.
Hadoop is just one approach for solving the big data problem. Not a single knive cuts all – there are other approaches for example for real-time big data analytics like ParStream.
You first need to understand your requirements then you can find the right product.
Happy to discuss your requirements and point you in the right direction.
NOTE I now post my TRADING ALERTS into my personal FACEBOOK ACCOUNT and TWITTER. Don't worry as I don't post stupid cat videos or what I eat!
