Head First series books still the best way to learn C# or Java. Required for quant development

I have been noticing over the last few months the demand of .NET jobs in quant has been rising. Also, I have done enough analysis on various quants commercial and open source projects, the majority of them are done using .NET languages like C# or Visual C++ with maybe a VB.NET front end. It seems this Microsoft platform is on the rise as compared to Linux technologies and languages.

Anyhow, I am needing to review my rusty C# skills which will help me quickly review these commercial and open source quant code packages. I can say without hesitation, the Head First series is still the best for learning a programming language. All the graphics and sense of humour take away the dryness I find with all those techie heavy books like from Dietel. Boring. Anyhow, Head First does cover all the majors aspects of languages like C# and Java. It might be a bit condescending but who cares right? As long as you are learning in a quick pace as opposed to reading it over a hundred times because you are falling asleep.

I also find the contributors and authors are top notch at what they know. Many are consultants and tech team leads which brings lots of authority at what they bring. Also, I find they are more hip as compared to some stuffy university professor who has not stepped outside of his lab in thirty years.

Anyhow, I wanted to bring this up as it might be important for those needing to learn a new major programming language is they should look into the Head First series. It is also important for them to understand that both C# and Java have similar syntax but either is  a very important programming language to learn if you plan to get into the quant field.
Unfortunately, there is no Head First C++ that I have seen. It seems to be in heavy demand though.
