Oracle continues open source Berkeley DB 11g since 2006. MYSQL may have future for open source!!
For those that don’t know, I am quite surprised Oracle has decided not to kill this powerful high availabilie database which was open source. They even bought out the company that developed and maintained. It has stayed that way since 2006!! I must say that increases my confidence to say MYSQL may stay as true open source as us naysayers might think otherwise. Also, this Berkeley DB is HIGH AVAILABILITY with C and Java source code versions. I am very impressed on what I read so far on this. This is apparently used by TIBCO for their messaging as well as some ‘leading stock exchanges’. This might be the best database to go with for a quant based infrastructure. I have already reported that HDF5 does not appear to be an option. KDB will be priority but I of course cannot afford it at this point. If I ever go into production, this may be my next pick.

Once again, I must give Oracle kudos for keeping this true open source. I will be interested how they will maintain their Java packages for Mac OSX as Apple decided to deprecate it. Sad sad sad Apple!

NOTE I now post my TRADING ALERTS into my personal FACEBOOK ACCOUNT and TWITTER. Don't worry as I don't post stupid cat videos or what I eat!
