Is there a real comparison between Ubuntu and Debian? They seem to get closer
First, Ubuntu is a derivative of Debian which some will claim as the purest Linux version out there. I tend to agree as it can be very light weight as compare to the prettier and feature rich Ubuntu. I feel Ubuntu is more like for those who are looking for a distinctive interface that they will not get from Windows 7 or Mac OS X. It seems to me that there is a version specially designed for net books. Kind of cool. I really like Ubuntu.
Then I forgot about good old Debian which is one of those more mature Linux distribution. I would also claim it is one of the oldest too. Ubuntu is a nice fork of Debian I believe. Some may think I am wrong but Debian for sure is a closer version of Linux as compared.

If you want to deploy a testing or development version of Linux or Unix, I would try out Debian. It never gives me any issues as compared to Ubuntu or Red Hat or even CentOS. Check it out you might be impressed but the light weightness of Debian.
