In your personal view, what’s the biggest shortcoming of software / systems for trading today?
Today or in general? The biggest problem in general is curve fitting and having the wrong risk parameters.
I think the most common general shortcoming is outdated systems that can’t or don’t evolve with traders’ needs.
That’s true, too many firms have models that aren’t dynamic enough to handle changing conditions. Just because a system works over the last 10, it doesn’t guarantee the next 10 will be repeated exactly the same
It goes deeper, in fact it goes into their development model. We offer Agile training to help clients move to faster, more responsive development cycles etc. just little things like continuous build and test enables more frequent production ready drops. Many groups use the big bang approach versus incremental improvements. Big bang failures cause issues. No one notices when incremental improvements slip a bit.
Plus many development teams are fully engaged making what they have already developed work today. They do not have time to start up new projects. That is why engaging a development house that gets to know you and your systems can buy you time to market.NOTE I now post my TRADING ALERTS into my personal FACEBOOK ACCOUNT and TWITTER.
