Unix Support Application Developer
Duration: Initially a 6 month contract but with a view to long-term or permanent
Overview
Candidate is sought for small start-up with big aspirations in the prediction and alternative investment arena. The house relies on open source, creative and focused solutions for generating returns from risk based capital allocation using decision science.
Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for high level and detailed design of solutions, development, testing, implementation, and support of solutions to support UNIX system dmins and application support teams in networking and web 2.0 on the cloud.
Responsibilities
§ Participates in requirements definition and analysis
§ Authoring technical documents to support each phase of development and delivery
§ Be comfortable with tear-down and redeployment of key infrastructure for live trades and
§ Web app creation for speed of implementation
§ Security management of key assets
Required skills
§ Languages: Javascript, R interfaces, message parsing, unix admin (user access, cron jobs, netcat)
§ Frameworks/Protocols: SOAP, REST, XML/RPC, JSON, websockets, redis, cassandra, mongodb, aws, ec2
§ Web technologies: html, CSS, jquery, AJAX, Comet, apache, php, shell scripting
§ 10-15 yrs experience with consulting skills or as a system integrator
§ Strong communication skills
